The International Record and Music Publishing Market (MIDEM) is the world’s largest gathering of companies working in the music sector. It has taken place every year in Cannes, France since 1967 and until now has been organised by RX France, formerly Reed Midem.

THE MIDEM BRAND ACQUIRED BY THE CITY OF CANNES

Three years ago, due to a gradual decline in attendance, the RX Group had decided to stop the organisation of this iconic event. At the end of 2021, RX announced the cancellation of MIDEM 2022 and the total cancellation of the market.

Following more than a year of discussions and negotiation, the city of Canneshas bought the MIDEM brand for the symbolic sum of €10,000. The Mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, announced on his social networks this week.

The record and music publishing exhibition will return to Cannes in 2023. The objective is to relaunch and energise MIDEM, with particular attention focused on the digital and streaming formats as well as live performance which represents the main source of income for many artists, performers and producers.
As a result, live concerts will be organised in Cannes as well as a prize giving ceremony to reward music professionals. Dates of the event are still to be announced.
