Reed Midem, organisers of Mipcom, have announced that the annual October television market and conference will be held exclusively online. The physical version of Mipcom was due to take place in Cannes on October 12-14 but was today cancelled.
Despite changing the concept of the event in an attempt to make the market coronavirus-compliant, removing exhibition stands from the Palais and rebranding the market as Mipcom Rendezvous Cannes running alongside a digital market, the pandemic has once again impacted an attempt at market recovery.
Ongoing uncertainty around Covid-D19 and recently increased travel restrictions make the physical event unviable and have forced Reed Midem to admit defeat by cancelling the event for the first time in its history.
We await to see what will happen with Mapic, the international retail property event also organised by RM, which is due to take place from 17th to 19th November.
